The end result of this surgery is an amazingly shaped abdominal area with tight skin. Unfortunately, along with the incredible results, the patient is left with a visible scar. This scar is generally left in the shape of “U” or “W”.

In all abdominoplasty surgeries, a long incision is made from one hip to the other. Along with this incision, another incision is also made around the navel to separate the skin from the navel area. These incisions are made to remove excess fat and extra skin from the abdominal area. Most surgeries result in great success but do leave a permanent scar on the patient’s body.

A scar is a frequent encounter with all plastic surgeries and the tummy tuck surgery is not exception. The tummy tuck scar quite common and usually fades over time. All plastic surgeons keep an album to consult their patients on the resulting scars that will be left behind. Tummy tuck scar details will be given to the patient prior to the surgery. Most scars will appear just above the bikini line and as long as the person wears regular attire, the scar cannot be seen. During warmer season, when swimming suits are worn, the scar may be revealed.

People that are very particular about this scar and its presence should discuss this with their surgeon prior to the surgery. The surgeon can suggest multiple tropical creams and lotions to use during the recovery period. These creams can be a great help for fading the scar from visibility. The scar may even fade to an extent that it will not be noticed but with close observation, it can still be located. If the scars are too troubling for the patient, then one may choose other possible plastic surgery procedures that may eliminate the scar completely. This is usually a quite expensive procedure and at the same time, consumes a lot of time. Tummy tuck scars will generally fade on their own after a certain period of time.
